Learn Afloat with Andante Yachting

We provide a wide range of well proven sail training courses that meet the requirements of the Royal Yachting Association's (RYA) training scheme and are run in a friendly and professional manner.

When teaching afloat we aim to combine learning with fun and good safety practice on a comfortable boat.

With over ten years’ experience of teaching afloat you can look forward to an enjoyable time afloat with an experienced instructor if you enrol with us.

Scheduled courses - 5 day practical course from £ 419.00 and 2 day practical course from £ 227.00

Individually scheduled courses

If you can make up a group of between two and four people we may well be able to schedule a course for you on either Classmate or a 33ft Westerly Storm based in Portsmouth. On the latter boat your skipper and instructor will normally be Andy Thomson, our principal. Both instructors can teach to Day Skipper level and Andy can teach to Coastal Skipper preparation level (also a 5 day course). We normally price these courses as though there are four students, irrespective of the actual number.

Own Boat

If you have a suitable boat then why not use her for your training?

It is a popular and successful way to learn and our principal particularly likes this type of training. All you need is a suitably equipped boat and crew and we’ll teach you to whatever level you want (RYA or non RYA). It is a very good way to take a practical course whilst learning a great deal more about handling your own yacht. What's more, you may be able to combine a course with a cruise to new waters.

For these courses you are paying for the instructor’s time and travel expenses as well as food, fuel, mooring costs and other boat related expenses. As a general guide the amount you will pay us for a 5 day course on your own boat will be broadly comparable with, but slightly higher than, the cost of two places on our school boat.

Skippered charter and experience building

Sail with an experienced skipper on your boat or aboard Classmate. Alternatively we can provide a skipper and instructor on a chartered boat - potentially anywhere in the world.
